I used to think of VCs as piratical: bold but unscrupulous. On closer acquaintance they turn out to be more like bureaucrats. They're more upstanding than I used to think (the good ones, at least), but less bold.

The PricewaterhouseCoopers/National Venture Capital Association MoneyTree data is out for 2007, and the $29.41 billion invested in companies is the highest level since 2001, when VCs plowed $40.62 billion into businesses.
